Cloud computing enables the businesses to provision resources on-demand without the need to invest in data center infrastructure and promises of reliability and continuous availability. Microsoft Azure was first announced in October 2008 and launched in February 2010 as Windows Azure. The name was changed to Microsoft Azure in July 2014.
Microsoft Azure cloud offers a range of computing services like object storage, virtual machines, content delivery networks(CDN). They also provide services that power the Microsoft proprietary technologies like the Remote Desktop, Active Directory, SQL Server etc. Who can use Microsoft Azure cloud comes in as an ideal upgrade for the users that had deployed the Microsoft technologies like the Active Directory and Windows Servers. Windows 2008 is longer getting active support and users must plan an upgrade and migration to the Azure cloud rather than look for a suitable hardware-based Windows infrastructure paying for the expensive licenses. What does Azure offer Microsoft Azure cloud offers both open source (Linux distros- openSUSE, Debian, CentOS, Red Hat Enterprises, Ubuntu) as well as proprietary computing technologies and solutions. Rather than building an on-premise server room or rent physical servers from the tier 3 data center. The costs are different for different types of services and are based on the type of storage chosen and the location of the data center where the MS Azure instances are placed. The services Microsoft Azure cloud is the second most popular cloud service provider behind Amazon AWS. There are numerous services that it offers for the consumers.
The benefits of Microsoft Azure cloud No data center requirement: There are huge risks associated with building one’s own data center when you are not sure of the traffic. As a user, you can find significant savings in data center infrastructure (power backups, cooling, safety equipment, security appliances) electricity costs, physical security, floor space, and more. The savings are too big to be ignored or not to considered by a small growing ambitious business. No maintenance: When a business is in the Azure cloud, the need for a data center, its infrastructure, hardware upgrades and maintenance, software installations, updates, and security are all handled by the service provider directly or through their Managed service partners. Security: Microsoft Azure provides better security features than what a user can maintain in-house. The cloud environment is monitored by industry best experts. They offer superior disaster recovery and backup solutions. There are again huge savings for the clients as external hardware drives or storage devices are not required. Access freedom: Like other cloud services, with authentic credentials and internet enabled device, users can login to their applications from anywhere. Low costs: Users pay for the services they consume on the pay as you use basis and not on reserved capacity. Its competitors: The biggest competitor to Microsoft Azure cloud is Amazon Web Services (AWS). The advantage with Azure Cloud Services is the easy migration it allows for users that are using the other Microsoft applications. Google cloud, Alibaba cloud, and IBM are the other major players in the cloud computing environment.
